Trauma

I bring a trauma-informed lens to my work, as I believe all people have experienced events or ongoing adversity that have informed how their nervous systems respond to their environment. Educating clients about how their nervous systems inform their lived experiences is one of the most empowering and exciting parts of my work. While I am humbled by the opportunity to sit with clients as they share stories of their lives, I believe that sustainable, long-term change comes from integrating talk therapy work with psychoeducation, mindfulness, and somatic support. Therapy can provide the safety and support for hypervigilance and numbness to thaw, so clients can re-build trust in their bodies, feelings, and relationships.

ADHD

Are you experiencing difficulty focusing, completing tasks, or managing emotional ups and downs? Many adults, especially women, find themselves stuck in a procrastination → anxiety → achievement → exhaustion spiral managing ADHD that went undiagnosed in their childhoods. When this cycle meets the near-constant input from social media and smartphones, the center cannot hold. Our capacity shrinks, the fuse feels shorter and shorter. I support adults with ADHD in better understanding their unique patterns and rhythms and cultivating self-compassion to relieve emotional pressure and find more freedom, joy and flow in life.

Anxiety

Whether or not you have a diagnosed anxiety disorder, it is likely you experience some amount of anxiety. You live in a demanding, expensive, fast-paced society with little built-in structural support. Your nervous system receives much more involuntary input than it is evolved to handle. You are expected to work and achieve and even thrive in the face of what often feels like a world on fire. If you aren't a little bit anxious, you aren't paying attention. Our work with anxiety begins with building awareness about the stories, relationships, and environments that allow anxiety to flourish unchecked, to move from a useful feeling to an unhelpful one. Once we've oriented ourselves to anxiety's process, we can begin to honor the protective role it seeks to play in your life, experiment with tools for managing and reframing it, and develop more agency over your thoughts, actions, and interactions.

Depression

If you often notice feelings of hopelessness, loneliness, and exhaustion, or have found yourself less able than usual to be an active participant in your life, you may be in relationship with depression. I support folks with persistent feelings of negativity or suicidal ideation with a warm, comforting space to thoughtfully explore these feelings. I believe that in order to make empowered change you must first acknowledge what is, so my first effort will be to really see you, to meet you wherever you are. With a foundation of trust, I will help you create distance between You and Depression, resource yourself, and begin taking steps towards a more connected and joyful life.

Couples and Relationships

I work with committed couples navigating changes in their relationship or seeking extra support for conflict management. I enjoy working with couples navigating life changes such as marriage, parenthood, or career change, and have particular interest in couples exploring non-monogamy or otherwise challenging conventional ideas about what a committed relationship can look like. I am unafraid of a big fight. My approach with couples is direct and relational; I point out dynamics in the room that I observe or experience, name cultural and social systems at play within the relationship, and provide co-regulation and communication tools to navigate uncertain waters, so you can return to the fun, fulfilling and supportive parts of your relationship.

Groups

I run a closed accountability and process group for creatives seeking structural and emotional support around making their art. This group is not a replacement for individual therapy. Please inquire if you are interested.

FAQ

  • The first step to getting started in therapy is to schedule a free 20 minute zoom consultation through this link, or contact me directly if the times offered don’t work for you. You can reach out directly via email or phone, or fill out the contact form on this website. On the zoom call, we’ll get to know each other a little better. I usually like to learn a little bit more about what’s motivating you to seek therapy at this time, and tell you a little bit more about my approach, as well as answer any questions you may have about working with me. If we determine we’re a good relational fit and our availability is a match, we schedule an initial appointment and I email you with new client paperwork and details for the first session.

  • Therapy works best if we meet weekly for at least the first two months of working together. However, I understand this may be prohibitive for some people and am willing to move to every other week sooner with some clients. I reserve a recurring appointment time for you on my schedule. Appointments are 50 minutes for individual therapy and 50 or 75 minutes for couples therapy.

  • I require 24 hours notice to cancel appointments without financial repercussion; otherwise you will be charged a full session fee for missed or late cancelled appointments. I will make my best faith effort to reschedule in the same week but cannot guarantee any weekly availability outside of the hour I reserve for you on my calendar.

  • Services are $150 for a 50-minute session. I offer limited 75 minute sessions (upon request) for a fee of $225. I maintain 25% of my practice at a sliding scale rate. Please inquire about availability, or see the resources page for other sliding scale counseling options in California.

I do not currently accept insurance, but am able to provide a monthly superbill should you choose to seek reimbursement for our services from your insurance company. All payments are due at the time of service.

  • Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance, Employee Assistance Program, or other employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully by asking at a minimum the following questions of your insurer and employer:

Do I have mental health benefits?

Do I have Employee Assistance Program coverage? How do I use it?

What is my deductible and has it been met?

How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?

Does my policy cover video/telehealth sessions?

Is approval required from my primary care physician?

What is my co-pay? Do I have co-insurance? How much is the co-insurance?

What does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?

Is there a reference number for this call?
